FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Question: Is it permissible to count (at YU) an official weigh-in that will take place after the February 3rd deadline as long as I post this weight class on time?

Answer: According to the letter and spirit of rule VIII the team roster must indicate the 'lowest certified eight of each wrestler', i.e. the wrestler must be eligible for that weight class at the time the roster is submitted. Only official weigh-ins between January 1 and February 3 will be accepted.

    VIII. -
'Coaches will be required to send in all tournament forms as well as their team roster showing the lowest certified weight of each wrestler by February 3, 11:59 pm.'

  2. My wrestler Shimon has practiced and wrestled (even in matches) with our program all year but does not attend our school. Will Shimon be eligible to wrestle at Wittenberg? After all, he is Jewish and goes to my Shul.

Answer: Article III is pretty clear about this and we will do spot checks with your school if necessary.

'Only High School Student Athletes who may have participated in regular season competition or were eligible to do so may participate in this tournament. All participants must be enrolled in the institution that they represent.'

However, if they attend another recognized Yeshiva High School, we strongly encourage them to attend representing their own school if approved by their administration.

  3. One of my parents asked me to forward this question to you just to be sure.... He recalls some suggestion from last year that there would be a second weigh-in for all wrestlers on Sunday morning, so that they would have to make weight twice. Is this true?

Answer: There have not been any changes to this rule.

Article IX: "Weigh-Ins will be conducted on Friday before the tournament at designated weigh-in locations."

  4. When are checks for the Wittenberg Tournament due?

Answer: All checks must be received by December 31st. Checks should be mailed directly to YU.. Any wrestlers/teams who have not paid by check-in will be ineligible to participate in the tournament.

  5. Who do we make the checks out to?

Answer: Please make out all checks to Yeshiva University . In an effort to make the check-in more efficient we recommend that each team collect the money from their wrestlers (made out to their respective schools) and then give one-single school issued check to Yeshiva University at Check-in.
  6. Who should parents interested in a hotel room for themselves make their checks out to?

Answer: Parents should make their checks out to Yeshiva University .
  7. Our team wrestled in a tournament during January, what proof can we bring for certified weigh-ins at a tournament?

Answer: Since most tournaments do not have official weigh-in forms filled out by coaches, but use other internal forms, the coach can bring a copy of the official tournament brackets. This proves that his wrestler made weight and was eligible to wrestle in said weight class.
  8. Can I participate in the Wittenberg Tournament but sleep at home or elsewhere (aka Not stay in the Hotel all weekend)?

Answer: The tournament invitation clearly states: The Shabbaton program is mandatory for all participants (Both in-town and out-of-town)
